15 things I’ve wondered about the Nseries
1. If the Eseries stands for Enterprise, than what does the “Nseries” stand for?
2. Why doesn’t the Nseries include USB charging?
3. Why wasn’t Nokia able to make a stylish and feature packed phone (N76 doesn’t count)?
4. Why does the N95 8GB with no upgradeable memory, exposed camera and lower Image Quality (when compared the N95) is considered an upgrade?
5. Why doesn’t screen auto-rotation work when the device is turned to the left?
6. Why doesn’t the Nseries Internet Tablets include phone functionality?
7. What will happen when all the numbers are used?
8. Why is the SportsTracker name used, when in fact it could be used for more than that?
9. Why are the icons being moved around with every new phone or even firmware?
10. What happened to FOTA and why isn’t it used anymore?
11. Why aren’t detailed lists provided with every new firmware?
12. Why isn’t firmware updates cached in case I want to reinstall them?
13. Why was the Video editor TRULY removed on the N95 8GB and N82?
14. If the N93 had such a great keypad, than why are newer keypads getting worse? (N82, N78)
15. In Nokia Search, why can’t I send the file I just found?
1. If the Eseries stands for Enterprise, than what does the “Nseries” stand for? Who cares
2. Why doesn’t the Nseries include USB charging? Nseries can charge through usb using this device http://www.amazon.co.uk/Astwood-Comm.../dp/B000OZ76XA
3. Why wasn’t Nokia able to make a stylish and feature packed phone (N76 doesn’t count)? Stylish is subjective and the N95 8gb has won design awards.
4. Why does the N95 8GB with no upgradeable memory, exposed camera and lower Image Quality (when compared the N95) is considered an upgrade? It has more memory out of the box. Regular N95s come with a 512mb or 1gb card the N95 8gb comes with 8gb of memory. The average user does not like buying additional things and likes everything in the box. As far as I know 8gb= upgrade over 512mb and 1gb. Lower image quality? Huh according to who? The N95 and N95 8gb has the exact same camera hardware. Exposed camera? Uhhh many cameras dont have lens covers it isnt a disadvantage per se.
5. Why doesn’t screen auto-rotation work when the device is turned to the left? Maybe because its a 180 degress UI rotate and not 360 degree...duh
6. Why doesn’t the Nseries Internet Tablets include phone functionality? Uhhh because its not a phone..... Its called product and market segmentation.
7. What will happen when all the numbers are used? What will happen when the numbers are all used for Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung, Lg, HTC etc. etc. Stupid and pointless question, as manufacturers will always found numbers and have even reused numbers.
8. Why is the SportsTracker name used, when in fact it could be used for more than that? Another completely ridiculous question.
9. Why are the icons being moved around with every new phone or even firmware? Its called new phone, new firmware so new changes. If things werent being changed he would probably be complaining that things are stagnant.
10. What happened to FOTA and why isn’t it used anymore? Why do you think, what happened to infrared and why is it that most handsets dont have it anymore? The N95 has infrared by the way
11. Why aren’t detailed lists provided with every new firmware? Detailed lists are provided and are called Firmware Change Logs. Nokia puts out change logs for every single firmware update.
12. Why isn’t firmware updates cached in case I want to reinstall them? That should be why arent not isnt .....
13. Why was the Video editor TRULY removed on the N95 8GB and N82?
14. If the N93 had such a great keypad, than why are newer keypads getting worse? (N82, N78) Again subject maybe the N82's and N78's keypad are bad to him but im sure many people love them.
15. In Nokia Search, why can’t I send the file I just found? Uhhh why doesnt the Iphone have bluetooth sending.
A ridiculous and pointless list clearly written by an amateur.

I got sort of an answer from a Nokia representative for question 2.
"I think that the USB charging is coming, from our perspective if you only have one USB port and not a USB port and a power block the device will be smaller in size, so USB charging will be coming in future. The question is about educating the consumers slowly in order to start using USB charging, so it takes a bit of time to get to that phase."
I think consumers are already "educated" as other manufacturers already have this type of charging. I got this reply during my interview with the representative at the N96, N78, and N82 black launch event here in South Africa.
By the way, the full interview is at http://phonereport.info/2008/06/22/interview-nokia-nseries-henri-mattila/

I think N stands for New.
Remember? Hear new, see new, feel new were the phrases for the N-Series from the start.
USB charging, the design of the phones (how much would it take to hire a real designer? :-) and the keyboard issue (actually, sometimes d-pad or stick being replaced with a worse new one) are real puzzles for me also.

My guess is, they wud hav put the accelerometer on the n95 for the purpose of managing the power usage. I mean its a know fact that, network searching for signal consumes lot of power,bt via a accelerometer it can b determind if the phone is on the move or stil, and according to that continuous network search wil function! Its just a opinion :-)

I didn't know that the video editor was not included in the N82. I love using it in my N95-3. The N95-8GB did seem like a step backwards. S60 was next generation for so long, but it's starting to feel like a PS2. Will FP2 be good enough to fend off ifonez and Androids?

You know, I've wondered about all of those myself, in addition to "Why doesn't Maps 2.0 do geotracking", "Why doesn't the N95 (and other GPS phones) do photo geotagging natively", and why, if they were so big on multimedia, didn't they give the N76 HSDPA? Oh yes, and: Why the hell did they put an accelerometer in the N95 and then not use it for another year?
A lot of the things that bug me about my N95, including no USB charging, seem to be either capricious or the result of either blatant money-gouging or engineers not finishing what they started.
